“Bodybuilders are confused!”
That’s what Mike Mentzer said.
It was true in my case. Is it true for you? It doesn’t have to be that way.
You’ve got the desire and the drive, but you don’t see the results. What you’re doing leaves you tired, hungry, unsatisfied and cranky. Terrible. This can’t be the right way to train.
You don’t want to keep switching trainers, gyms, supplements and systems. You just want to know what works.
I’ve been there and I can help.
My name is Chris Farrell, I started the Old Guy Body Builder, and my passion is finding smart, sensible ways to build muscle and strength.
I started training in 1982 and never stopped. I spent the first fifteen years of my training career following the routines found in Muscle and Fitness from guys like Arnold, Lou, Tom Platz, Frank Zane, and a hundred other guys that I had no business comparing myself to.
That stuff won’t work for people like us.
I started this site to talk about stuff that will.

In case you want to know more about me…..
I am not a competitive bodybuilder.
I am a husband, a dad, a CPA and a typical bodybuilder.
A typical bodybuilder is a person who:
- Trains hard,
- Trains consistently,
- Pays attention to their diet,
- Pays attention to rest and recovery,
- Has a life outside of the gym, and
- Is drug-free.
If that’s you, welcome.
The old guy bodybuilders knew the answers. The answers are surprisingly simple. Not easy, but simple.
